About us // History and tradition

“Apidava” proceeds from the Dacian word “dava”, wich means settlement, fortified dwelling, and the word “api” which comes from the Latin word “apis” = “bee”. The Dacian and Latin roots of the Romanian people made us choose a name that represents our area and certifies our tradition in obtaining and selecting only the best natural bee honey.

This old Romanian tradition in producing honey is proved even by the frescoes on the famous Column of Traian, the bas-relief in shape of a spiral that celebrates the victory of Traian in his campaign of conquering Dacia.

Dacian tradition in beekeeping, together with the Romans force and discipline characterize our company Apidava and place it on the leader position of the Romanian honey market for over 18 years.

Apidava can be considered today, the honey fortress, the place where we produce for over 15 years only high quality honey, a 100% pure product, obtained only on natural ways and with a guarantee quality, from all the special flowers in the Transylvania Plateau.

The over 25 years of experience of Mr. Victor Mates - the man who started the company in 1992 - in obtaining, selection and sorting quality honey, the ways of preservation, packing and promoting the products, helped us always to offer to the clients the best honey on the market, placing us on the first spot in consumers preferences.
